One of the required inputs for the Optimal Clear Width Calculator is the tree density, measured in trees per acre or trees per hectare. Tree density can be derived from forestry yield tables. It will be necessary to assess the site classification. Then use the tree density matching the observed canopy height.

Don’t have forestry yield tables? Don’t know timber cruising techniques or don’t have the necessary tools? Then you can determine the stand density by collecting a bit of field data.

A spreadsheet template for a sampling procedure can be downloaded from this site. It is an Excel 2000 spreadsheet. Subscribers to the Optimal Clear Width Calculator or the Line Strike Probability Chart services may request the template in another format. Send an email request to Ecosync.
